This is our 6th Annual Brush for Bucks Habitat project. The past several years with your help we have planted over 65,000 sagebrush and bitter brush seedlings on critical winter range habitat throughout various parts of Idaho. With your help we will planting our 100,000th plant in the ground.
100% of the money raised from the purchase of event tickets, the onsite raffle and the exclusive Brush for Bucks merchandise will help us to continue funding this program for years to come.
This year with your help and in conjunction with Idaho Fish and Game and The Bureau of Land Management we will be planting over 20,000 Sage Brush and Bitter Brush seedlings in the Boise River Wildlife Management Area (BRWMA)
The BRWMA encompasses 41,500 acres in the foothills of the Boise and Danksin mountains. The BRWMA is part of the primary winter range for mule deer and elk in Big Game Unit 39, with up to 8,000 mule deer and 1,800 elk wintering on the WMA.
While the BRWMA is no stranger to wildfire, a fire started by a powerline burned into the heart of mule deer terminal winter range in October 2024. The fire burned 9,900 acres, most of which was on lands within the BRWMA management boundary. Of this, 6,300 acres was on lands owned by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG).
The Valley Fire burned an area used by roughly 2,400 mule deer and 650 elk. This represents approximately 10% of the Unit 39 mule deer population and 13% of the Boise River Zone elk population.
